The veteran Ghanaian rapper, Michael Elliot Kwabena popularly known as ”Obrafour” sués Aubrey Drake Graham also known as ”Drake” for sampling a portion of his popular song ‘Oy3 Ohene’ (remix) in Drake’s song “ calling my name” as shared online via the United States District Court Southern District Of New York.
Report of the suit indicate Drake sought permission to sample the song for his song via the rapper’s email but he didn’t give the permission to use the song. So he later released an album which had the song featured in.
The rapper is asking for a compensation of $10 million dollars due to the breakthrough the song had on Drake’s “honestly never mind” album. In case you haven’t heard or seen the songs in question check this post out.
A snippet of the suit reads “Obrafour sués for copyright infringément under the Copyright Act, and seeks all remedies afforded to him thereunder, including preliminary and permanent injunctive relief, monetary damages, including but not limited to, actual damages, profits directly and indirectly attributable to from Defendants’ infringing conduct, statutory damages under the Copyright Act in the sum of up to $150,000.00 per infringément where such infringément commenced after the Copyrighted Work was registered with the United States Copyright Office, and other economic relief,” .
